The Student Senate has been representing student opinion on campus for 61 years. SGA's beginnings actually arose from the creation of the Student Senate. Texas A&M's Student Senate convenes every other Wednesday during the academic year, where Senators will then listen to student and faculty opinion, create solutions for the future, and vote for bills and resolutions.
Every student at Texas A&M is represented in the Senate both by academic classification and area of residence. Senators are elected in the campus-wide spring election, with the exception of freshman representatives, who run in a special fall election. In the event that a seat becomes vacant, the Senate officers appoint a replacement through an application and interview process.
